Iakovos Kambanellis, the acclaimed Greek playwright, screenwriter, poet, lyricist, prose writer, and actor, passed away on October 13, 2011. Born on December 2, 1921, on the island of Naxos, Kambanellis left an indelible mark on modern Greek culture with his prolific and diverse body of work.

A Prolific Polymath

Kambanellis was the most prolific Greek playwright of the 20th century, with over 50 plays to his credit. His most famous work, "Court of Miracles," is considered the opening work of modern Greek drama. Kambanellis also wrote numerous screenplays, poems, lyrics, prose works, and even acted in films and plays.

A Master of Verse and Prose

Kambanellis was a master of both verse and prose. His iconic literary works include the novel "Mother of Waters," the poem collection "The Sunken Sea," and the song lyrics "I Will Not Give Up."
